With a great increase on media coverage of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, many are quickly understanding how serious an issue it is and that it can require medical attention.
It is estimated that close to 50 million people are affected by a sleep problem of some type.
Additionally, approximately nine per cent of women and 24 per cent of men (aged 30 to 60) have some measure of obstructive sleep apnea or OSA.
With an aging population, the problem of OSA, and snoring, are becoming more prevalent. Dentists are being asked more often about oral appliances to treat snoring and OSA. Oral appliances have been effective treatment for snoring and mild OSA. In moderate to severe OSA patients with nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (nCPAP), and those who have not had success with uvula surgery, oral appliances have also proven successful.
